Boro

Boro have occupied a number of grounds since their begining, some of these are the Old Archery Ground, Albert Park in 1877; Breckon Hill in 1879 and the Linthorpe Road Ground in 1882.

However the most hallowed ground the Boro occupied, before the move to the Riverside was, Ayresome Park. In 1903 Boro moved to Ayresome and there the club stay for 90 years, until 1994 when Bryan Robson came to the club as manager.

Boro moved to The Riverside Stadium in 1995. It was built in just 32 weeks and it was the first to comply with the Taylor Report. The doors to the Riverside opened on August 26th 1995, with a game against Chelsea. It was this historic game that saw Craig Hignett score the first ever goal at the stadium, as boro went on to win 2-0.

It was the Teesside Development Corporation that offered the Middlehaven site to Middlesbrough Football Club, for the development of a brand new stadium. The plot next to the River Tees paved the way for the name of the stadium, chosen by the fans; The Riverside Stadium. Due to a sponsorship deal with telecommunications company Cellnet, the stadium was name The Cellnet Riverside Stadium, however this was removed after the contract expired.

In the summer of 1998 an extra 5,000 seats were added to the stadium in a £5m extension to the West Stand, filling in the empty corners. This extension increased the capacity of the Riverside to 35,100
